Three different comparisons, one consistent baseline

Fiat / basket = 100 × starting CPI / ending CPI. A value of 80 means uninvested cash retains 80% of its original CPI-adjusted buying power. The amount needed to buy a comparable basket = starting amount × ending CPI / starting CPI.

BTC / local fiat uses complete-year mean BTC/USD multiplied by that year’s official mean local-currency-per-USD rate. BTC / basket rebases that local BTC series to 100, then divides by the CPI change. Multiplying separate annual averages is an indicative conversion, not the exact average of daily local BTC prices. No interest, fees or taxes are included. This is not a trading backtest.

Coverage and limits

189 countries/economies have at least two annual CPI observations. Some have fewer FX observations. Known unverified local-unit changes are excluded from BTC comparisons. CPI measures price change within a country, not how expensive one country is relative to another. It does not measure your personal basket. Official FX may be inaccessible or differ from parallel-market rates. Currency regimes and statistical methods can change.

Data retrieved 2026-11-02; latest years vary by source and country. Annual sources are checked automatically; each country shows its check date in the calculator. This is not a live inflation feed. No gaps are filled and no forecasts are generated. Download the complete source-labelled dataset.
